Crud. They caved.

I didn’t think the Busch family would cave in, but the Anheuser-Busch board voted to sell the company to inBev for $ 49.91 million. Miller was sold years ago, but I didn’t think this would happen…the company has been fiercely pro-American. Remember the TV commercials with the folks in the airport spontaneously breaking into applause as the US soldiers pass through? Great commercial, and of course it’s on YouTube:

Still brings a tear to my eye.

Stella Artois is a good beer, but I always hate to see an American icon purchased by outsiders. Yes, I cheered when Daimler spit Chrysler back out. I think this sucks, basically. I’m no big beer drinker, but it’s an American icon.

Anheuser-Busch has also done a nice job with the theme parks. Sea World and Busch Gardens in Tampa are very nicely executed, with a different, more “real” feel somehow than the Disney and Universal parks. What will become of them?
